With the increasing use of AI in the activities related to cyber security threats, the risk of ransomware is increasing, which threatens to make cyber-attacks even more complex. Global cyber security provider Kaspersky's annual Cyber-Security Weekend for Asia Pacific Countries 2024 (August 4-7) held in Sri Lanka highlighted this point in various presentations. The stake holders of Bangladesh also participated in it. At the same time, the issue of protection of the bank and financial sector of Bangladesh also came up in the conference.

The conference discussed the latest cyber security developments and potential threat vectors in Asia Pacific as well as the best approaches to counter these threats. At this conference, the world's leading cyber-security professionals, journalists, CTOs, executives and more are given in-depth analysis by Kaspersky cyber-security experts on the potential disruptions and cyber security threats that come with the spread of AI. Kaspersky's mission is to provide comprehensive cybersecurity services for both public and private organizations, as well as individuals, small- and medium-sized, and large businesses, to secure their digital infrastructure.

Speaking at the conference, Adrian, managing director of Kaspersky's Asia Pacific region, said, “In many organizations, the incorporation of AI is inevitable due to the ability to effortlessly process large data sets. However, stakeholders need to be aware of data compliance when using AI. Policies need to be put in place on how confidential data is used and what parts of that data can be acted upon by AI. It should also comply with the laws and regulations of the respective countries.

Adrian added, “The most important thing now is cyber-resilience, which needs to be taken seriously. Optimal cyber-resilience requires telemetry and information logging that can quickly identify and respond to problems. Also, comprehensive policies are needed to ensure quick recovery in the event of a cyber-attack.”

"Ransomware is the most common cybercrime in the world today," said Igor, director of Kaspersky's global research and analysis team. Cybercriminals run it like a business and offer ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) services. Their main way to attack any system is to exploit vulnerable applications and use stolen or guessed passwords. Newly affected supply chains and trusted relationships. In many cases, these attacks are discovered after they have already succeeded. Among these, government agencies, financial institutions, and manufacturing organizations have been the most attacked.”

"At Kaspersky we have been researching all these issues for many years in order to create a reliable security solution for our customers," said Alexei Antonov, Kaspersky's lead data scientist.

“Chain attacks on machine learning models can be used to set training data in such a way as to make the AI model faulty. Since AI is an integral part of today's world, these attacks can have a significant impact”, opined Vitalu Kamlook, the cyber security specialist of Kaspersky Great.
